Adaptive Art Activity

Zot Artz lets children stamp and print and make their mark.

Art for all! Children of all abilities get to stamp and print to make their mark. Use adaptive art tools and shapes to create your very own exciting art creation! Parents will love the fun and creativity plus this activity also helps develop motor skills, concentration, social interaction, self esteem and more! See photos and learn more at www.zotartz.com. Each child receives their own print to take home. Plan 5-20 minutes for activity. One print per child. While supplies last. Suggested donation of $5.00 per child to cover supply costs. Adaptive Climbing Wall

Adaptive Climbing Wall

Adaptive climbing is not just for experienced athletes. This activity is for anyone with a desire to explore and try new things - including those with disabilities. There is no better person to learn from than Mark Wellman of No Limits. Mark has SCI and is an adventure athlete, speaker and author. He will be on hand to demonstrate his innovative adaptive climbing techniques and adaptive sports gear. Using Mark's custom climbing equipment, anyone with a disability can participate and climb the wall! Climbing has tremendous benefits - building confidence, developing goal-setting skills, increasing strength, and improving flexibility. And it's fun! Mark is a former Paralympian and Park Ranger, and he is the first paraplegic to summit El Capitan and Half Dome in Yosemite National Park. Adaptive Rowing and RowOfLife Ocean Rowing Boat

Try an adaptive rowing machine and discover how it can open up the world of adaptive rowing for you. No access to water is needed! Rowing is a sport that is accessible to most people with disabilities. Learn about the many benefits of rowing, such as exercise, fitness, improving self-esteem, setting goals, and a sense of accomplishment. Angela and other disabled rowers will be on hand to show you the ropes. Angela will also share her stories of rowing across 2 oceans as a paraplegic (Atlantic and Indian), medaling at the Paralympics (2012 London and 2008 Beijing) and more. Learn more at rowoflife.com.

Hand Cycling

Hand cycling is a form of adaptive cycling that enables athletes of all abilities to ride a "bike" exclusively using the upper body. Unlike many other adaptive sports handcycling works to create integrated cycling opportunities for wheelchair users and athletes with lower-mobility impairments. Enjoy this opportunity to try a hand cycle for yourself! Friday's session will specifically focus on what clinicians need to know to confidently prescribe the right handcycle for their patients and Sat. and Sunday will be targeted to consumers of all levels from beginner to elite levels.

Presented by Ms. Wheelchair California Pageant

The Ms. Wheelchair California 2014 Pageant takes place at Abilities Expo LA! Hear the contestants present their platform speeches. Then join them Saturday at 3:45pm for the finals of the competition. The pageant selects an accomplished spokeswoman each year to represent California's disability community. The competition is based on the women's advocacy and activities related to their disability and the disability community. Adaptive Skateboarding

Presnted by The Skate Connection

Enjoy a remarkable skateboarding experience that is inclusive of people of all types of abilities. Able-bodied and wheelchair users alike are invited to try skateboarding and rolling over an obstacle. Helmets, skateboards and trained assistance is provided by members of The Skate Connection, an organization that works within the skate community to promote the integration of individuals with disabilities into the community itself. Adaptive Off-Road Cycling and Chairs

Discover how you can explore the outdoors through the use of adaptive off-road cycles and chairs. The presenters will share how people of ALL abilities have options for getting onto mountain biking trails and bike path networks. IMPAKT Adaptive Sports collaborates with eXtreme Abilities, Mike Box, Triumph Foundation and Reactive Adaptations to promote sports and provide the necessary equipment to help you better pursue independence, enjoy teamwork, meet people, and strengthen your mind and body. Auti Angel's Wheelchair Dance Workshop with DJ Skretch Boogie

We're kicking off each day with a high-energy, live performance by the Walk and Roll Foundation's inspirational wheelchair dance team. The dance team performs unique and captivating routines across the country as well as sharing their stories of adversity and how through determination and high spirits they've gone on with their lives to fulfill their dreams to dance. Following the performance it's your turn! Everyone will have a chance to get out on the dance floor and learn some moves. Follow the Team and learn more about them at www.walkandrollfoundation.org.

This book is about Karen's daughter Lorrin's unique life. Lorrin was born in Newport Beach, California, March 15, 1994. At six weeks, Lorrin had an adverse reaction to her one and only DPT vaccination. The vaccine attacked her brain, leaving her with severe brain damage. The doctors never had hope for Lorrin's future. They suggested Karen get on with her life. Feeling abandoned by modern medicine, Karen turned to alternative treatments and spiritual guidance. Despite all of Karen's best efforts, Lorrin continued to have horrible episodes of uncontrolled seizures that would land them in the hospital for days. Local Chicago stars Mike Berkson and Tim Wambach bring Abilities Expo attendees their true-life adventure filled with humor and honesty. KABC 790 AM Talk Radio show hosts Dr. David A. Kipper and Peter Tilden will broadcast their program, The Medical Show, LIVE from the floor of Abilities Expo, right in the registration area! Come early on Saturday at 10:00am (one hour before show opening) and get answers to your questions on health-related issues from this renowned physician. Dr. Kipper has extensive experience with treatments for people with disabilities. He has practiced medicine for more than 35 years and has treated patients with multiple sclerosis, congenital disorders, stroke and more. Opportunities to pick the brain of a medical guru are few and far between, so come equipped with your questions because the doctor is in!

Wheelchair Tennis

Players from the Southern CA region will be on hand to demonstrate Wheelchair Tennis and teach attendees who would like to learn more. Wheelchair Tennis is one of the fastest growing wheelchair sports in the world and offers the ability for people to play recreationally and competitively. It follows the same rules as able-bodied tennis except wheelchair tennis players are allowed two bounces of the ball. It's one of the few wheelchair sports that is well integrated with the able-bodied sport. The players will demonstrate "Up Down". Attendee participation is encouraged! Learn wheelchair dancing from the first organization to offer classes in Southern CA! First, sit back and enjoy two great dance routines including A Group tango Dance, a smooth Foxtrot and a fiery Salsa. Then it's your turn to learn some steps! Join our newest dance member G-lo (4yrs old) and Kiki (6yrs old) as they lead our all-inclusive hip-hop routine. Attendees of all ages and mobility levels are welcome to join us to learn some steps and put together a Flash Mob performance! Able-bodied individuals are welcomed! Wheelchair Dancing crosses the boundaries of age, gender, and physical ability and includes individuals using manual or power chairs with varying levels of ability. Donna Russo has danced for nearly all of her life. Over the past seven years, muscular dystrophy has taken away much of her ability to move. Despite her condition, Donna's passion for dance stays alive in her heart. See the performance that inspired the YouTube video.
